Hi, my name is Adam and I’m an integrative psychotherapist working in Walthamstow, Tottenham and online.
There are many reasons why you might be thinking about starting therapy. You may want to move through a period of depression, learn to cope better with anxiety, improve low self-esteem, have better relationships, or simply try to unpick the feeling that something in your life isn’t right and you’d like things to be different. These are all things I have experience working with. I also have a specialist interest in working with addiction, attachment related issues and those experiencing chronic illness.
How we approach our work together depends on you: where you are in life, what you’d like to address, how quickly and deeply you’d like to explore an issue. What I offer is an environment where you can begin to understand the meanings and motivations behind why you feel the way you do.
I work in a way that does not pathologise sexuality or gender, and with an understanding that issues of class, race and culture impact how we experience the world. Sometimes it’s not us that needs to change, sometimes the problem is in society.
If you’re interested in starting therapy, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We can schedule a free 15-minute consultation to decide if you might want to work with me.
How I work
In our first few sessions we’ll explore what brought you to therapy and what you’re looking to get out of it. You may already be aware of some of the things you’d like to address, and maybe not. We can work together longer-term to address a deeper issue you feel you’d like the time and space to unpack. Or we can work shorter-term on some specific things.
My approach is based on the premise that behind our thoughts and behaviours sit motivations, conflicts and unprocessed feelings that are often out of sight to us. In the therapy room we gently bring these into view and examine them. I do this by listening to your story, asking simple questions, and offering observations for you to consider. My practice is pluralistic, and my work primarily draws on attachment, psychoanalytic and existential approaches to therapy.
With more knowledge about how and why we act the way we do, we can make choices more in line with who we want to be. Often, therapy can help us clarify a lot about our lives: how we want to live, who we want to be. A lot of our pain and unease can come from a vague sense that something is not right in life. Sometimes what we need is someone to listen to our story and help us make sense of it all. Therapy can also provide us with tools, strategies and new ways of coping with anxiety and other difficult emotions. If that’s the case, this approach might help.
My role is to facilitate, to help you feel safe to share and speak about your experiences and life. I believe that therapy can help us to live better, less conflicted lives and with greater purpose. If this sounds interesting, then don’t hesitate to get in touch to arrange a consultation.
