My name is Max Chainey and I am a qualified Integrative Therapist and registered with the BACP. I am based at East London Therapy, as well as a practice in Hackney.
I work with a range of issues, including difficulties in relationships, lack of intimacy and infidelity, family conflict, self-criticism, shame, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts, grief, gender identity, sexuality, body image, anger, loneliness, as well as broader existential questions of purpose, meaning and finding where you fit in in this world.
I provide therapy for adults and young people, with a broad range of experience working with individuals from different socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural groups, including experience working with LGBTQIA+.
I can offer you a deeply caring relationship. I will be curious about you and your experiences. I will build a space with you in which thoughts that feel dangerous, shameful or wrong can be shared. In which fantasies can be explored. A space in which you can be held in moments of vulnerability. I will reflect with you and offer you compassionate challenge to connect with thoughts and feelings that are often avoided, as well as do things differently and perhaps unexpected.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in the media and communications sector on domestic and international behaviour change campaigns. I have also worked with the Samaritans to provide support to those in emotional distress and at risk of suicide. My experience has afforded me the opportunity to meet and work with people from all walks of life.
